48 SFF disks added to existing 8-shelves...admithw completed...is that it? Should we expect to see some sort of rebalance occur where now I have 54% of existing disks used, only 4% of new disks used which are free spare chunklets I believe, but that's it.

I will add that the day following the disk install, I ran a tunesys and didn't notice anything was done. That was about 5-days ago. Running again this morning, however, looks like it's actually trying to do some work.

Each chunklet need to be cleaned / zero'ed out before they are available for use by the system, so that may explain why tunesys didn't actually do anything initially.

Is there a way to watch the progress of that and identify when it's actually worth running that tunesys?

Showpd -c -p -devtype FC

This shows the amount of chunks per drive, intialized, unitialized, free, used, etc. You could plot the table e.g. In excel. that way you have a visual overview of the balance.

Rather than tunesys which must be run a lot of times before having nice results, we use tunevv.

You can also use showpdch -cng to monitor chunklet cleaning or showsys -space and look at the uninitialized number.

from what i've seen, that issue is finally fixed in 3.2.1
tunesys had some issues tuning R6 before that release.
