Hi,

I would like to move a VV from one domain to another.
But the wizard says, all associated objects will move too.
And everything seems to be associated (hosts, CGPSs, dozens of VVs)
Is there a way to move only this single VV, without completely destroying the domain separation by moving everything around?

Thank you and best wishes,
Wolfgang

Tune the vv to a cpg in the destination domain?

Cpg's are per domain if memory serves. So create a new cpg in the destination domain and tune the vv to that cpg I would think should work

Can't tune across domains from what I can see.

You'd need to un-associate the VV from any VVSET or Host/HostSET or AO/RCopy setups, create a temp CPG in the original Domain, Tune the VV to the temp CPG. Then move the VV to the other Domain (taking the temp CPG with it), Tune the VV to a CPG in the other Domain and delete the temp CPG. ;)

Well that's a pain in the tuchas!

But it makes sense. the domain effectively segments EVERYTHING - Hosts, CPG's, VV's, AO/RC Groups, pretty much everything except the physical ports.

So if you want to move one VV, you'd have to take the host with it, which means the rest of the VV's associated with that host.

Thank you all for your answers.

Ailean, I´m trying to follow your suggestion.
After tuning the VV to the temp CPG, it seems to be a member of both CPGs and I´m still not able to move it to the other domain without moving everything else too.
Is this normal behavior?

The VV is still listed as using 1GiB of "Copy Space" on the original CPG (but zero "User Space").

How do I disassociate the VV from the original CPG?

Can you run a showvv -cpgalloc <vv-name> and a showvvcpg <vv-name> for me please?
that should help determine what is going on

I think Architect is on the right track.
You'll probably need to tune both user and copy space, the snapshot space is likely still associated with the original CPG. Have a look at where the snapshot space (CPG) is located in the VV properties.

Indeed, what he said. :)
Tune both User and Copy space, if you've never used Rcopy or snapshots with that volume you can just edit the volume properties and change the Copy space CPG to the temp one. As they mostly recommend using the same CPG for both these days it would be nice if they added a tune both tick box.
