Post subject:  Evacuating a Disk

Hi All,

I would like to remove Some Disks from the 3 par

They are not faulty but I want to replace them with Bigger Disks in the same technology group.

ie 480 GB ssd's now 1.92 TB ssd's

As the 3par places these in the same cpgs. I have been told that you can migrate the data off these them remove, but finding a procedure how to do this is , very difficult.

It was HP that said you can do this and then move the smaller ssd's to another SAN , so that's great.

Just wish this part was like the old EVA days when you just "ungrouped" the Disk and all data was removed and re levelled across the Disks in the pool.

I can log a job with Hp but thought I would Ask here first and see if anyone has done this also.

According to the tech I spoke to as well...you can shift selves also...lol

Chers

HP offer a rebalancing service to achieve this, they'll build a plan and set out the commands upfront, since most of the work is done remotely it's generally pretty low cost, they can do the same for enclosure moves also. http://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/getpdf.aspx/4aa4-0280enw.pdf

Post subject:  Re: Evacuating a Disk

Found another thread...most likely the one you posted and did some research and am happy with what I found. which is basically this

1) setpd ldalloc off <Disk id number>
Stops Disk from being used. (use showpd -s to show Disk state)

2)movepdtospare -f -vacate <Disk number>
-f means no confirmation is required
-vacate - makes move of data permanent , removes source tags after relocation

3) showpdch -spr <disk id>
Displays chunkets on Disk marked as spare

4)removespare <disk id>:a
This removes all spare chunklets off the Disk

5) dismisspd <Disk id Number>
Once the Disk shows up in "new" status they can be removed.

Extra Steps

Admithw -checkonly
Tunesys -cpg

Notes:
If Step 2 Fails use command

movepdtospare -f -vacate <disk id> -dr

Take a note of the failed chunklets
use command below to move failed chunklets

movech -perm -ovrd <disk id>:<chunklet number>
