Hello All,

I have a 4 node 7400, and I am thinking of upgrading the controllers and the disks. I was thinking of upgrading them to the 8400. My question is this possible? Can I just upgrade the controllers in my 7400, or do I need to purchase a new 3par?

Thanks,
Scott

No officially supported upgrade. You could have upgraded to 7400c way-back-when...

Node to cage connectors are different, SAS speeds are different... almost everything except metal, plastic and possibly PSUs are different. And on top of that.... licensing..

So you need a new 3PAR.

If you care to have support on the system, a new one includes usually 3 years warranty on everything which in most cases will be cheaper than extending the existing...

Yes, it’s not very eco friendly, but this is how the storage business has been doing it for at least the last 20-25 years....
