Post subject:  Drive Cage degraded - but cannot find out why

Hi everyone,

Got a 3par 7440c in the office, running 3.2.2. MU4. Got a cage show as degraded, but I cannot see anything wrong with it.

Tried look into the GUI, can't see anything wrong; tried running showcage -d cage3, and everything show ok (including the firmware) too. Please see screenshot from attachment.

Anyone has any idea?

Just want to say that under the state of degraded, the state description is showing
Interface Card Port A0 Normal
Interface Card Port A1 Normal
Interface Card Port B0 Normal
Interface Card Port B1 Normal

So is that mean the cage is actually ok, but just didn't clear old alert?

Fans are running at high speed so something is "wrong".

What does checkhealth -svc -detail say?

Edit:btw, you should not have "wholes" in the cage. If slot 20 and 21 is empty, so shall 22 and 23. Shouldn't have a lot to say in this case, but you have an unsupported configuration.

tried running health check but nothing in particular related to the cage.

in regards for 'holes' , that is a supported configuration that's done by HP engineer, where the 2 column has been left empty by design, the last 2 slot are SSDs.

If that is supported, then you need to get your HP engineer to update their installation document:

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public ... =c03606625

Bottom of page 39:
Quote:
Guidelines for Allocating and Loading Order (2.5 inch SFF disk drive)
For a node or M6710 Drive Enclosure, drives must be added in identical pairs, starting from slot
0 on the left and filling to the right, leaving no empty slots between drives.

Back to the issue there doesn't seem to be any active errors.... I would probably log a case for this ... could be something "stuck" requiring a restart of sysmgr or similar or it could be something under the covers that isn't displayed.

It could show degraded state of cage because of High Speed on both fan´s.

All my cages shows Low Speed for fan´s.
