well the 7450 is most assuredly NOT a rumor... It's been out for some time.

As far as a hardware refresh, I would think there has to be some type of update to the 7200/7400 coming down the pike. They were released almost 2 years ago, so I would be surprised if HP wasn't working on a hardware refresh.

That being said, I would be surprised if HP called it the 8400, as it might cause confusion over the old HP EVA 4400/6400/8400 line, but maybe that's just me and HP doesn't care about that.

I was thinking the same thing about the eva.

Interesting little tidbit in the 3.2.1 MU1 release notes:

"On HP StoreServ 7440 systems[...]" (page 32) ;)

Hoping for an updated 8000 series, I am feeling the 1,8 Ghz CPU's are getting a bit long in the tooth.
Maybe HP is targetting Broadwell for the lower TDP?

The LSI 9200 series is also ripe for replacement IMO.
The 9300 series has 12 Gbit SAS and has a faster IO controller.
Granted, the 9205 is no slouch, but it is getting old,
and the 9300 series is probably better fit for low latency flash arrays?

I'd say that's just a typo and should be 7450, there are several other typos in there, like upgrade is spelled upgarde.

There will be an announcement soon though............

Probably they will just turn on the extra 2 disabled cores and charge $$$$$ for it. The processors in the 7200 are really hex-cores (+HT) and so have 12 "cores" each - but they turned 2 (+2HT) off making it a quad (+HT) core cpu. So instead of the 16 showing currently for two nodes there should be 24 really - 50% more powah!

I don't want to say too much, I am not under NDA, but I also don't want to breach the confidence of the HP employee I spoke with, but I am told there is at least 1 new model coming, but it is designed to be an even smaller scale array rather than a larger or more powerful

hello,

while browsing the 3par 7000 quickspecs yesterday I noticed that there was a refresh on the controllers :
- models 7200c, 7400C with more RAM cache, more CPU,
- and more importantly, the new 7440c with twice the max flash cache, and more maximum enclosures ! (up to 38 enclosures, that's 960 drives; I d 'like to see the cabling for the second rack...)

it's here :

Hello

there is also a ("new") 7450c.
Also with more and faster Cores and more RAM.

But

HP told us this aren't "new" Boxes...

These are the same but with more Cores and more RAM!

Shame on you HP!!!

Based on what I'm reading between all of these new quickspec sheets, it looks as if the new 7440c is basically the 7450c minus the ridiculous SSD-only limitations. I'm left wondering if there's a pricing delta, and if so, in favour of which model?

Strangely, for the 7450c, they expanded the number of add-on drive enclosures to 18, but the drive count limitation (240 drives) is still in place—you can have more bays for your drives, but not more drives.

The ssd only restrictions allows them to change a lot of optimizations that improve performance with ssd but which would significantly decrease performance with disk.
