Hi I need to do %subj for one of my customers, i have HP permission to do it and the customer don't want HP to do it, but i don't know how. I have 3PAR_Virtual_SP_4.2_GA_Vmware_ESX_software_QR482-11013.iso and P001 and P002 patches. If i try to feed SP with this iso for upgrade, it didn't work. 3pardude writes Updating the Service Processor The HP engineer first downloaded the update for the Service Processor and Inform OS. Next he disabled alerting in the Service Processor and chose to run the Service Processor update ISO. This stage was completed quite quickly and next he moved onto loading the Inform OS to the Service Processor. Service Processor update ISO – what is it ?! In document HP 3PAR OS 3.1.3 MU1 Upgrade Instructions is : The SP level must be at SP 4.2.0.GA-29 to continue with this HP 3PAR OS update If the SP software level does not meet the requirements for this HP 3PAR OS update, you must update the SP software before continuing with the HP 3PAR OS update installation. If the SP level is below 4.2.0, use the HP 3PAR Service Processor Software 2.5.2 Upgrade Instructions (PN QR482-96084) to upgrade to SP 4.1.0 (MU2) first, then follow the HP 3PAR Service Processor Software 4.1.0 MU2 Upgrade Instructions to update the SP software to SP level 4.2.0. I didn't found it. I think i know how to upgrade from 4.2.0 - for example http://www.bitcon.be/?p=2610 , But how to upgrade TO 4.2.0 ? Maybe i'm stupid and it is simple. Thanks for help. |

You need SP-4.2.0.GA-29.iso file for upgrade. I believe 4.1 should be at patch level P008 prior to update to 4.2 I am also attaching pdf with instructions

Hi According to documentation patch level P009 is correct; anyway i tried it before with patch level P008 too. The iso 3PAR_Virtual_SP_4.2_GA_Vmware_ESX_software_QR482-11013.iso which i have is the correct one i think - if i mount it, it is Vsp-4.2.0.GA-29. The iso contains ovf deploy - files rhel_Vsp-4.2.0.GA-29.mf, rhel_Vsp-4.2.0.GA-29.ovf and rhel_Vsp-4.2.0.GA-29-disk1.vmdk. If i try update from console, i see Can not find spPkgList on CDROM (i think so, its really quick) I found in doc HP 3PAR Service Processor Software 4.2.x Release Notes August 2014 next Error when you use ESX VSP to update HP 3PAR OS software: “Can not find spPkgList on CDROM” (Issue 92718) If you try to update the OS software by using SPMAINT and a CD or DVD with a virtual Service Processor (VSP) that is running on an ESX server, you may receive the following error message: Can not find spPkgList on CDROM This issue may occur when the /mnt/cdrom on an ESX virtual machine is not mounted properly or is not automatically updated when you put in a new CD or DVD. Workaround: To work around this issue, manually unmount and then remount the /mnt/cdrom. It tried it - nothing. From SPOCC i see SP packages not found on /sp/prod/data/transfer/staging/3PAR_Virtual_SP_4.2_GA_Vmware_ESX_software_QR482-11013.iso I'm lost. |

You have wrong iso. You have iso for VMware deployment (Vsp-4.2.0.GA-29). Get the one I mentioned above. It has RHEL rpm packages inside and not .vmdk files... And next update via SP webgui and not by mounting iso to VM directly. Please read attached pdf for health check, etc prior to installing update. |

Thank you At first, it was my idea too, that i have deploy iso and not upgrade iso with rpms. And now i think i found it ! For VIRTUAL service processor upgrade i need 3PAR_Physical_SP_4.2_GA_software_QR516-11014 - iso for PHYSICAL service processor ! Strange. Now i have service processor version SP-4.2.0.GA-29. But anyway, thank you very much. By. |

@profp62: You are right. To upgrade SP via SPOCC you need the physical SP ISO. This one contains all packages needed for upgrade. The virtual one only contains the aplliance in .ovf files. |
