When configuring NL drives why are you forced to use Raid 6?
I know I can run the AllowR5OnNLDrives command to unlock Raid 5 for NL drives, but whats the risk of running NL as Raid 5? I'm trying to weigh up the benefits of more IOPS against reduced resilience of Raid 5.
Whats the general consensus?

Between the lower mtbf of a nl drive, and the extremely long rebuild time (hours), you really need the extra resilience. Plus with the asic doing the raid calc the performance hit is minimal

A NL disk on a busy system will easily take 2 or 3 days to rebuild.

With RAID-5, when one disk will go out, you will be unprotected and have no resilience, during these 2 or 3 days.
Better to have 2 disks for resilience and not risk data loss.

Our 2TB drives take a good 24-30 hours to rebuild most times, we set up as Raid 5 originally, but plan to eventually move to Raid 6.
